The Acuminatus Bannerfish, also known as the Pennant Coralfish, is a captivating ray-finned fish belonging to the Acanthuridae family. This family encompasses a variety of unique species, including Sawtails, Surgeonfish, and Unicornfish. One distinguishing feature of the Acanthuridae family is the presence of specialized spines or scalpels on both sides of the caudal peduncle, which serve as a means of defense. These distinctive structures are often brightly colored, acting as a deterrent to potential threats. The Acuminatus Bannerfish, in particular, exhibits a remarkable elegance with its long, trailing dorsal fin.

Like its counterparts, the Acuminatus Bannerfish falls within the subfamily Nasinae. This subgroup exclusively comprises members of the Naso genus. These fish showcase the intriguing characteristic of possessing up to two forward-curving hooked spines on each side of their caudal peduncle, with the number varying depending on the fish’s age. The name “Sawtails” alludes to their potential for developing keels, which can number up to seven in some cases. Unlike some other subfamilies, the spines and weapons of Nasinae and Sawtails are fixed in position, contributing to their unique morphology. Only members of the Acanthurinae subfamily possess retractable spines, and they are characterized by a single pair that can be erected by curving the tail.

Additionally, using a jump guard is recommended to prevent any accidental escapes.

To maintain the health and vibrancy of Acuminatus Bannerfish, a varied diet is crucial. High-quality pellet and flake foods, such as Jbl Maris, form a staple part of their diet.
