Description
Female Scribbled Angelfish, Chaetodontoplus duboulayi, also go by the name Duboulay’s Angelfish. Like several members of this genus, adults and juveniles do resemble each other.
Female Scribbled Angels have a bright yellow tail fin and head. A 70s rockband-esc black stripe extends downwards, from their forehead to their chin. The posterior portion of their body is dark blue. Electric blue highlights decorate their dorsal and anal fins.
Female Scribbled Angelfish look fantastic. Their fins share the same electric blue highlights as the young fish. The eye band turns from black to blue. Prominent white patches form behind these eye bands. These occur more for the males than the females. Adults also develop the elegant marking that gives the fish its name. Males have thin, purplish blue lines against dark blue, whereas females display irregular circular scrawls.
Female Scribbled Angelfish, Chaetodontoplus duboulayi, Ecology:
Female Scribbled Angelfish occur mostly in shallow reef areas in the Indo – West Pacific Ocean. They have been reported in the coral sea and around, Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
In nature, Scribbled Angels graze on macroalgae and sessile invertebrates, such as sponge and tunicates. This makes them unsuitable for marine aquariums with coral, as they can nip at them. However, it may be possible to keep some carefully selected coral species in the same tank as the Scribbled Angelfish. We highly recommend consulting a member of staff on the issue.
Duboulay’s Angelfish In the Aquarium:
It is important to have plenty of nooks or crannies where your Female Scribbled Angelfish can explore and feel at home. Keepers may also want to get a jump guard to stop any accidents.
Female Scribbled Angelfish are omnivores and do best when fed a varied diet. They will accept frozen Mysis shrimp and enriched frozen brine shrimp. We enrich all our frozen food with seachem garlic guard and Atvitol vitamins. These are great for keeping fish healthy by providing them with the nutrition otherwise lost in frozen food. In doing so, these additives support their immune system and increase longevity.
Female Scribbled Angelfish will graze on marine algae that can be secured to the side of the tank with clips. Over time they will accept high-quality pellet or flake. We adapt all our Angel Fish to aquarium life before they leave us. We focus on their health, and most are eating a good quality flake food and/or pellet before being offered for sale.
Scribbled Angelfish can live in a mixed group or alone. Feel free to give us a call with any questions.
