Description

Adult Majestic Angelfish, Pomacanthus navarchus, also go by the name Blue Girdled Angelfish. Like many members of the Pomacanthus genus, adults and juveniles have different colour morphs.

Juvenile Majestic Angelfish feature attractive dark bodies, that highlight their vibrant blue and white stripes. They have large fins that look too big for their body, which makes them look dopey. The dorsal fin has an orange or yellow tinge to it. This patch of colour gets bolder and bigger over time, as the fish enters its adult morph.

Adult Majestic Angelfish are stunning. The fish have vibrant yellow bodies, that feature evenly spaced, blue polka dots. Adult Majestic Angels have a deep bleep mask over their eyes and head. A white boarder neatly highlights this mask. The same pattern is also present on the caudal peduncle. Here the blue extends downwards and covers the anal and ventral fins. This contrasts beautifully against the dorsal and caudal fin, which are both bright yellow and sport an electric blue ridge.

Large Angels are from the Pomacanthidae family. A group famous for their vivid colours. The name Pomacanthidae is Greek for, “cover”(poma) and “thorn” (akantha), which refers to the pair of strong spines on the gill cover.

Majestic Angelfish Adult, Pomacanthus navarchus, Ecology:

The Adult Majestic Angelfish’ geographic range is in the Indo – Pacific Ocean. Their northern limit is the Philippines and Micronesia, while their southern limit includes the Great Barrier Reef and Rowley Shoals. Majestic Angelfish can also be found between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

In nature, Majestic Angel fish graze on sessile invertebrates and macroalgae. This makes them risky for marine tanks with coral, as they can nip. However, it may be possible to keep some carefully selected corals in the same tank as the Adult Majestic Angel. We ask you consult a member of staff if you want for details.

Blue Girdled Angelfish In the Aquarium:

It is important to have plenty of nooks or crannies where your Adult Majestic Angelfish can explore and feel at home. Keepers may also want to get a jump guard to stop any accidents.

Adult Majestic Angelfish are omnivores and do best when fed a varied diet. They will accept frozen Mysis shrimp and enriched frozen brine shrimp. We enrich all our frozen food with seachem garlic guard and Atvitol vitamins. These are great for keeping fish healthy by providing them with the nutrition otherwise lost in frozen food. In doing so, these additives support their immune system and increase longevity.

Adult Majestic Angelfish will graze on marine algae that can be secured to the side of the tank with clips. Over time they will accept high-quality pellet or flake. We adapt all our Angel Fish to aquarium life before they leave us. We focus on their health, and most are eating a good quality flake food and/or pellet before being offered for sale.

Angelfish can live in a mixed group or alone. Feel free to give us a call with any questions.

The Fish pictured here are representative only and the livestock you receive may vary in pattern, coloration, and shape.
